Wind power production reaches new historical highs with strong winds

Wind power production supplied 69% of the electricity consumption in Portugal on 17 October, thanks to the generation of 108 GWh of wind power, a new all-time high.

The previous record, dating back to 16 January this year, was 106.3 GWh.

Upon examining the production mix on that day, it is evident that renewable generation supplied 92% of the daily consumption, which amounted to 146 GWh.

On 17 October, wind power production also reached a new peak of 4843 MW at 2:30, surpassing the previous record of 4785 MW set on 3 March 2022. It is worth noting that, on average, wind power production supplies approximately 25% of the national electricity consumption.

Last week, the national system experienced three days (from 18 to 20 October) without electricity production from gas sources.
